Don't wait until you're pregnant to get acupuncture

June 19, 2023 Stella Parker

Acu sooner, bump later!

Having acupuncture when you’re pregnant is amazing (catch up here if you missed the earlier article on why) - and while loads of people associate acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (CM) with this, the benefits of it seriously extend far beyond this alone.

Planning to fall pregnant? Visiting an acupuncturist before then can help to:

Promote Overall Well-being

Acupuncture traditionally works by stimulating specific points on the body, encouraging the flow of ‘qi’ (vital energy). Regular acupuncture sessions can help balance the body's systems, boost circulation, reduce stress, and enhance overall well-being. In finer detail, this looks like… →

Optimizing Reproductive Health

Whether it’s now or in a wee while that you're planning to conceive, acupuncture can play a pivotal role in optimising reproductive health. It can regulate menstrual cycles, enhance ovarian function (1), and improve the quality of eggs and sperm. Regular acupuncture sessions may help to address any underlying imbalances and increase your chances of conception when the time is right.

Managing Stress and Anxiety

TTC (trying to conceive) can be hectic. And further down the line, so can family life! Acupuncture is well-rated for its ability to reduce stress, anxiety, and tension (2), and by starting acu early, one gets the chance to develop effective coping mechanisms, find balance, and establish a familiar sense of calm which all in all offers a solid foundation for your fertility journey.

Addressing Menstrual Irregularities

Obviously this one is pretty important - if you experience irregular periods, painful cycles, or other irregularities around your period, acupuncture can be really valuable (3). When it’s time to start TTC, knowing you’ve addressed any hormonal imbalances and irregular cycles may help increase the chances of conception - and we like that!

Enhancing Male Fertility

Remember, we spend lots of time focussing on the mama to be, but men are heavily involved in this process too! Acupuncture is not only beneficial for women but can also have a really positive impact on male fertility. It can improve sperm quality, count, and motility (4), helping to boost the chances of successful fertilization.

Supporting a Smooth Pregnancy

Of course, starting your acupuncture treatments at any stage are beneficial - once you’ve conceived, acupuncture can help manage morning sickness (you poor mums-to-be), alleviate pregnancy-related discomfort (ouch), and assist to regular your nervous system during this intense time.

So really, it sounds like today is a good day to book your appointment, right? Any questions? Touch base with me any time, or book below. You can find me all across Sydney - in both the Inner West (Newtown) and Eastern Suburbs (Bondi):
