POSTPARTUM CARE + SUPPORT

postpartum support

One-off ‘at Home’ Treatment | 60-90 mins | $185
4 pack ‘at Home’ Treatments | $640

As a modern society, we really don’t do a great job of supporting mothers all in all - and particularly new mums. Up to one in five mothers will experience postnatal depression and anxiety, with risk factors including birth trauma, isolation, and inadequate support - and this doesn’t even include the physical recovery from birth itself - often a rigorous ride.

Really, the early days of mummahood should be about support, rest, recovery and nourishment, because when we support mothers, our communities thrive. So why not set new parents up the best possible way for healing from the rigorous demands of pregnancy and birth, and bonding with their newborn?

PS - postpartum is FOREVER. Mums with kids of all ages need to be nurtured and supported, so don’t hesitate to reach out if your ‘little’ one is not so little anymore and mum-itis is getting on top of you. Mama, I’ve got you.

Book in for a one-off or 4 pack (once a week for 4 weeks), for acupuncture support at home, in your space, on your timeline. Or gift a session to a new mumma you know.

FAQs

+ How can acupuncture help new mums?

Acupuncture itself works by stimulating specific nerve-rich areas on the body, which then trigger biochemical and physiological changes in the body. This is done by inserting very fine needles into specific body points to initiate responses from the nervous system. It has been widely accepted that acupuncture causes the release of endorphins, serotonin, enkephalins, GABA, norepineprhine and dopamine (1).

In the postpartum period, a Chinese Medicine practitioner will work with the mum to figure out what needs to be addressed most - often this is working to restore any deficiency from birth (blood, fluids, Yin), settle the nervous system, encourage & promote lactation, plus hormonal regulation. It can also assist in the physical recovery of birth, by promoting healing and addressing issues such as pain, inflammation, and recovery from c-section or perineal tears.

+ What is the 'Golden Month'?

Many cultures look at the postpartum period as a time of deep support, recovery and reverence. The first 6 weeks or 42-ish days is a period of confinement when Mum and bub stay in the bubble of a safe home, they're looked after, fed nutrient dense nourishing meals, they bond, and partake in special practices that promote the physical and emotional health of the family.

While we may have lost this a little in our modern Western world, I think we would only benefit from bringing this back... and there's no reason why you can't create it in your own home. Whether that's getting your friends to organise a meal-train in lieu of baby pressies, or having me come and give you personalised treatments to support recovery, this period sets up a healthy life with your child/ren!

+ I'm past 6 weeks/ 12 weeks - can I still get these treatments?

Mamas, one thing is for sure and that's that postpartum is for LIFE! Whether you're in the early hazy days with your new little bub, or years down the track but are exhausted struggling with severe mum-itis, I've got you.

I'm here to for you at any stage.
